The Journey to a $2M Business ā€“ No Marketing Budget Required

Hey there,

Ever heard of someone who spends ZERO dollars on marketing and still rakes in over $2 million per year? If you're shaking your head, "no," allow me to introduce myself ā€“ I'm the WIOA Grant Ghost Whisperer. (Yep, you read that right. šŸ‘»šŸ“ˆ)

This is the grant no one is talking aboutā€¦until I showed up :)

When I started my online school, I knew I had to scale fast and go where my audience was.

To qualify for the WIOA grant, individuals must meet these criteria:

- Laid-off worker: Someone who's lost their job and is getting unemployment income that doesnā€™t quite cover the bills.

- SNAP or TANF recipient: Individuals receiving food benefits due to low or no income.

- Transitional living: Those in temporary housing, often for free or at a very reduced rent, for 3-6 months. The WIOA grant can help them move to a more stable living situation.

What ZERO dollars in marketing looks like.

The Big Schools' Costly Mistake

Most big schools pour buckets of money into traditional advertisingā€”social media, radio, Google adsā€”but the conversions? Meh. It's like trying to sell ice to a penguin. So, I went old school: gorilla marketing and phone calls. There were tons of phone calls. Like, 100-a-day phone calls.

How I Did It: The Magic Intro

I contacted women's shelters, non-profits, transitional homes, church groups, and any place offering free resources. Gatekeepers galore! But I made my intro quick and compelling:

ā€œHey Julie, my name is Hector, and I help your applicants/residents access a grant that pays for them to learn new skills with our online school. Since we're 100% online, we even provide free laptops so they can study from anywhere. Can you point me to the right person so we can make an impact together?ā€

Boom! This introduction opened doors to amazing phone calls, Zoom meetings, and in-person presentations. Fast-forward a few weeks, and I'm presenting to rooms full of potential students and collecting a ton of names.

The Snowball Effect

Each new partner became a referral source, leading to more partnerships and applicants. Itā€™s the best way to market because it's humanized. People connect with a face, not just a faceless ad.

Too often, I read about complex marketing strategies, courses, and coaching programs. But this simple, direct method is a game-changer.
