Part 2: If You Live Near These Cities, Pay Attention

If you read my last segment, you saw that the $200K electrician is real but it’s also not entry level.

So the next question is: where are these opportunities actually happening?

Because this isn’t spread evenly across the country.

It’s concentrated.

Right now, there are a handful of markets where data center development is exploding. Northern Virginia is the largest, often called “Data Center Alley,” and it’s been the center of gravity for years. But that’s no longer the only place.

Rural Texas has quietly become one of the fastest-growing data center hubs in the country. Phoenix and Atlanta are right there with it. Austin and San Antonio are expanding quickly, and even places like Iowa, Nebraska, and Mississippi are seeing new builds.

What’s driving this isn’t random. Data centers need land, power, and infrastructure. So companies are choosing locations where they can scale fast, and then they’re building at a pace the local workforce can’t keep up with.

That’s where the opportunity shows up.

In some of these markets, contractors are struggling to find enough electricians to staff projects. Jobs are getting delayed, timelines are stretching, and companies are bringing in workers from other states just to keep things moving.

When that happens, wages go up, per diem gets added, and overtime becomes available almost by default.

That’s how you start seeing $120K, $150K, and eventually higher numbers.

Now here’s the part most people don’t connect.

You don’t need to live in one of these cities to benefit from it. But you do need to be willing to go where the work is, at least early on. The electricians who are maximizing this moment are the ones who understand that mobility equals opportunity.

For school owners and operators, this matters even more.

Because workforce boards in these regions are actively looking for training providers that can help solve the shortage. Employers are open to partnerships. And funding programs like WIOA are still there to support training that leads directly into these roles.

In other words, this isn’t just a job trend.

It’s an ecosystem opening up.

In the next email, I’m going to break down the exact path someone can take to go from zero experience to getting into this world—and how fast it can realistically happen.
